Dr. Ruth S, Miclat-Sonaco is the Center Director of the International Training Center on Pig Husabndry (ITCPH) in Lipa, Batangas. ITCPH is the only training center in Asia specializing on pig husbandry. Known for its “learning-by-doing” principle, the Center has also managed to strengthen its public-private partnerships through her leadership. This paved the way for an increase in the budget allocation of the center and resulted to more short-term and long-term impacts to communities.
Aside from leading the ATI-ITCPH, she was also designated as the Director of the DA- National Livestock Program. From overseeing the disbursement of funds allocated in the 16 regions of the country, through the regional training centers of the ATI, she also ensures a proactive enagagement of farmers organizations in crafting projects and programs for implementation.
Continuing the ITCPH’s legacy in the provision of pig related trainings, Dr. Miclat-Sonaco has been one of the key movers in reviving the country’s swine industry through “Bantay ASF sa Barangay” and the Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE) of the DA-NLP.
