As per The Department of Energy, the Philippine electricity demand is projected to triple by 2040. With Liquefied Natural Gas and Geothermal and Coal power plant remains as country’s biggest energy contributors, Industry stakeholders push continuous investment, development and constructionof new power plant while integrating available solutions and technologies to increase efficiency on the existing power plants.
Although the DOE has imposed a moratorium on new coal power plant projects, there are power plants that will add up to 9,000MW committed capacity in the years to come. Nearly half of it will be sourced from coal with 4,241MW (47%), because there were more than 20 projects approved prior the moratorium.
Liquefied Natural Gas with 3,500MW (39%) also shows promising development in the country as per several terminal projects underway with massive investments contributing to the energy sustainability and security, aiming to boost natural gas's share in the power generation mix by 2040.
Geothermal energy plant shows steady growth and remains major source of renewable energy in the Philippines. With Government providing green line ,number of geothermal projects, its target is to increase the capacity by 91MW in coming years until 2026.
